Del Rio Fire & Rescue Department invited the public to attend a dedication ceremony for a monument honoring the tragic loss of 343 members of the New York Fire Department on Septermber 11, 2001.

| Mayor Dora Alcala addressed the crowd prior to the unveiling of the monument. The mayor spoke to the importance of remembering the sacrifices and honoring those who courageously gave the most important gift of all...their lives, to help others. "We all remember Sept. 11, the day we all woke up to a beautiful morning and within minutes were glued to the T.V." |

| Firefighters performed the unveiling of the monument using the department's Quint/Ladder Engine. With the "Flag of Heroes waving in the background, the platform was raised and pulled the tarpolion from the monument |

| The "Flag of Heroes" documents all 343 names of the firefighters lost in the 911 tragedy upon the red stripes. The flag will be flown to mark the anniversary every September 11th. It has been framed and is on display at Northside Fire Station. |
