First Responder Program

The Del Rio Fire & Rescue Department first began thinking about ways to enhance the City of Del Rio's emergency medical response capabilities in 1998.

This was a response to our department's then lack of emergency medical training and frustration at arriving on scenes where people needed medical assistance, but we had neither the tools or training to assist.

Research into other communities response to this dilema pointed towards a First Responder Organization. We then began to actively plan a path towards this goal...to develope and gain certification for a First Responder Program.

We made our first presentation to City Council on January 22, 2002. The purpose of this presentation was to make council aware of the benefits of this program to our citizens and community, and to inform them of the fire department's intent to pursue the development of a First Responder Program and to gain certification for our organizaton as a Certified First Responder Organization with the State of Texas.
